On Christmas Eve in 1854, Harriet Tubman went on a mission to rescue her three brothers—Ben, Robert, and Henry—from slavery. She found out they were going to be sold after the Christmas holiday.
So, she went back to get them and helped them escape to freedom.
This Christmas Eve rescue became known as "The Christmas Escape."
Harriet Tubman is one of the most amazing people to walk this Earth.
I definitely think we should celebrate her more often than simply during Black History Month.
I don’t have any children, but... If I did, I actually do think leaving out cookies for Harriet every Christmas eve is a pretty neat idea.
It would be a great way to celebrate a remarkable person who cared deeply for others and actually walked her talk!
I’m not saying you couldn’t still leave out cookies for Santa (If that’s part of your holiday experience).
But, if I had to choose between Harriet and Santa, oh I’m definitely handing the cookies over to Harriet.
